Patrick served for 44 years in Law Enforcement. He served with the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department for over 31 years, until his retirement in 2008. During his career with the Sheriff’s Police, he served in Field Positions as a Patrol Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Field Lieutenant, Watch Commander and as an Area Commander. His experience as a member of the Staff of the Training Division includes position as the Recruit Training Coordinator, Self Defense Coordinator, Range Master, Training Academy Supervisor, and as the Training Academy Commander. He also served as a S.W.A.T. Team Sniper, Hostage Negotiator and as the Gang Crimes Narcotics Supervisor.
Patrick has served on numerous committees for the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board, to include the Use of Force Advisory Panel, The Defensive Tactics Standardization Committee, The Pursuit Driving Committee, The Vehicle Stops Standardization Committee and the Long-Range Planning Committee.
Shortly after retiring from a long career with the Sheriff’s Police, he was hired as the Director of Training for the Cicero Police Department where he served for over 12 years. He has served as the Range Master for the Cicero Police Department and has held the ranks of Commander and 1st Deputy Superintendent of Police. Patrick has trained over 6,000 Recruits and over 11,000 In-Service Personnel nation-wide. He has served as an expert witness in many Use of Force, Firearms and S.W.A.T. cases.
He still teaches use of force and defensive tactics related courses for the state of Illinois.
